Often used in seafaring circles to represent good luck, the bluebird is often worn by sailors and others who work on the ocean. The bird is often confused with the swallow or swift, who have similar colorings.
Bluebirds are most often associated with happiness, good health and prosperity. A dead bluebird means a loss of innocence and disillusionment.
In the nautical world a bluebird is usually tattooed on a sailor’s chest when he reaches 10,000 miles at sea and often the sailor will get another bluebird on the other side when he reaches 20,000 miles.
