While in Asian cultures the Bear or the Boar are not distinguished between, in the West a boar usually means a wild pig. Usually a boar means a wild male or a certain species. Swift, nocturnal with razor sharp teeth the boar is something that many would fear.
Muscular and fierce, the boar is known for being a worthy opponent for hunters. Courageous, fast and ferocious in battle, it is easy to understand why one would want this strong symbol as a tattoo. The tusks of the boar were often worn to show a man’s status and rank, and in the small nation of Vanuatu in the South Pacific the boar tusk is displayed proudly on their flag as a symbol of prosperity.
