The Brahma is one of the three Hindu lords of the Trinity, or aspects of Absolute Reality. Brahma is the least worshipped of the three lords, as Vishnu and Shiva receive more attention in India. Brahma’s female counterpart is Saraswati, who is the goddess of wisdom and knowledge, while Brahma represents psychic or mental element and creative thought.
Brahma is depicted with four heads, allowing him to watch the universe in all directions. In his hands he holds 108 prayer beads. Originally Brahma had five heads, but was deprived of one when the Lords Vishnu and Shiva decided he was too amorous, which is why he is considered a lesser deity.
The Lord Brahma is often linked to human’s earthly needs, which in the Hindu religion needs to be left behind in order to become enlightened.
