Heaven and Earth Celtic Cross Tattoo
Anyone of Irish, Scottish or Welsh descent may wear a Celtic cross as a symbol of their heritage, rather than their faith. Since the Celtic and Norse arts representations are closely links you will see some Celtic influence in Scandinavia and beyond.
The circle within the cross symbolizes eternity, while the cross surfaced in the 4th century around the time that sun and moon worship began. It is thought that the cross was firstly used to coax the Druids towards Christianity.
The cross and circle combined make and interesting combination of symbols: eternity, the four elements of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. The crux of the cross is the coming together of Heaven and Earth. Although the cross is certainly recognized as a Christian symbol, its true origins date back much further and their real meaning is mostly unknown.
