An extremely venomous, fearsome snake, the cobra is certainly an imposing figure. Not surprisingly, because of its power it has many sacred meanings around the world. In India the cobra is a symbol of power, while a cobra near your home is a good omen of protection. The snake in Egypt was widely appreciated, and Cleopatra used ones to end her life so it was afterward associated with the beyond.
