Fire has many meanings: transformation, change, passion or even a warning. Smoke from a fire is thought to carry the wishes and prayers of the faithful towards heaven. Fire keeps the cold at bay and lights our way in darkness.
Feared and revered, fire is one of the four principle elements as well as one of the five Chinese elements. Hindus consider fire a sacred element that is found in all living creatures. Christians consider fire to be a sign of the Holy Ghost, although most descriptions of hell include fire and brimstone. Candles are lit in many religions to usher in a new day or holiday and to remember the dead.
