The Free Spirit of the Horse Tattoo

The horse is one of the earliest symbols that appeared the in artwork of early man. Before the horse was tamed it was one of the primary food items of the early hunter. There are pictures of horses that have been found in caves in France dating back over 40,000 years. The horse was admired for its strength, speed and stamina even before man domesticated it.

Horses were an important part of man’s conversion from hunter/gatherer to agrarian culture. Horses were used to travel vast distances, carry heavy loads and pull plows for farming. Soon the horse became associated with wealth, as the wealthiest land owners had the best horses.

Today the horse is available to everyone, whether to ride, admire or place a bet on. It symbolizes free spirit and intelligence.
