The Romantic Killer Whale Tattoo
Although this great beast was once feared by sea folk it has become a favourite subject for whale-lovers and artists alike. This giant member of the dolphin family frequents the waters of Northwest North America and certainly holds a high place in the mythology of the Haida people as well as other indigenous tribes.
There are many stories of the killer whale, some that depict it as a destroyer of sea life who eats everything in its path, leaving nothing to the people. Some believe that the killer whale was actually a wolf that got caught at sea and transformed, hence its great hunting skill. It is thought that many Native American chiefs have been reincarnated as killer whales.
Dedicated family members, the Orca can represent romance and affinity for the family unit, since it usually stays with its mate and its herd for life. To be splashed by an Orca is good luck, but should you injure one it could capsize your boat and drag you down to the village of the whales.
