All over the earth the ladybug has been associated with Good Luck and Good Fortune. For many farmers the ladybug was an indication of good weather, and has been praised for its ability to kills other bugs that are harmful to crops.
In fact, during the middle ages in Europe there was a plague of insects that were destroying all the crops so the people began to pray to the Virgin Mary. The ladybugs arrived and ate all the bugs, earning them the name “The Beetles of Our Lady” which then became “Lady Beetles”.
It is thought that the ladybug landing on a person would bring them good luck and if you were sick it would make you better. The dots on a ladybug’s hand indicate the number of children she will have if it lands on a newly married woman’s hand. Killing a lady bug brings bad luck.
