The Passive Qualities of the Moon Tattoo
The moon symbolizes heaven and is one of the twelve symbols of sovereignty.
The moon is the passive side of the ying and yang, the sun being the dominant side.
The moon represents the inner child that resides in all of us, and our past selves.
Prior to sun worship, the Egyptians worshipped the moon, with Isis as its goddess.
The moon and the cat were often used interchangeably. Assyrians thought the moon was their supreme deity and many other Mediterranean cultures also worshipped the moon. Of course the moon was the earliest form of a calendar and was used to time the planting and harvesting of crops.
A round, full moon is often associated with pregnancy and fertility and in Central Africa it is still common for women to bathe their newborns in the light of a full moon. Since the moon is usually seen at night it is also linked with nocturnal animals such as owls, coyotes, wolves and jaguars.
