The Freedom of Biker Tattoos

Bikers have long had an affiliation with tattoos, and the most recognized biker tattoo is that of the Harley Davidson, which is synonymous with the open road and freedom. The bar and shield logo first appeared in 1910 and is still around.

Of course the Harley is also closely linked with those who prefer to ride the machine, meaning the Hell’s Angels. While this sometimes gives the Harley a negative connotation, the bike is simply a bike and not who rides it.

The first Harley Davidson prototype was developed in the early 1900s by William Harley and Arthur Davidson, and had to be peddled uphill. During World War I over 20,000 bikes were provided to the military and by the 1920’s it was the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world.

Although through the years the bike had steady sales, it didn’t really take off until it was featured in a host of biker movies from 1950-1970.

A Harley Tattoo can be anything associated with the brand or the bike, including the logo, eagle’s wings and engine parts.
