Spiral Tattoo

The Energy of Spiral Tattoos

The spiral has existed in nature since the beginning of time, from the curl of a ram’s horn to the shell on a snail. The spiral has fascinated us since we first evolved and so it is not surprising that it has such deep symbolism.

The spiral represents our journey to god and self, or the soul.

It is the shape of energy that evolved order out of chaos.

Nearly every early civilization made use of the spiral in art, either to symbolize the path to our inner selves, eternity, dreams or even to inspire a sense of calm.

There are many different presentations of the spiral, and all have their own meanings. Here are a few:

  • Single Spiral: one of the oldest symbols found in paintings and carvings. It has many meanings depending on the culture, including the cycle of the new year and immortality.
  • Double Spiral: similar to the Yin-Yang symbol, it represents how opposites (like male and female) are interdependent on each other.
  • Triple Spiral: thoughts to have been designed by the Celts and then spread across Europe as they began to trade with other nations. It is representative of the holy trinity.
