The nautical star is a representation of the North Star, used by sailors to navigate their way across the sea. It is thought that by having the nautical star as a tattoo would serve as a talisman to keep from getting lost.
The hexagram (six-pointed star) is a symbol of humanís interaction with the divine, and is also known as the Star of David, an important symbol in the Jewish religion. The six points represent the days of the week while the centre is the Sabbath.
The seven-pointed star or septagram represents integration with the mystical, while the octogram (eight-pointed star) symbolizes fullness and regeneration. Finally, the nonogram or nine-pointed star symbolizes achievement and stability.
